Hexadecimal number system

  • The number system with base/radix  16  is known as Hexadecimal number system.
  • It uses sixteen distinct symbols, most often the symbols 09 to represent values zero to nine, and AF (or alternatively af) to represent values ten to fifteen.
  • Hexadecimal number system is positional number system, i.e. every position in a number has assigned some weight.
  • Hexadecimal number system provides a convenient way of converting large binary numbers into more compact and smaller groups.
  • In general, Hexadecimal number can be expressed as:

  • For example , (3AF5.67)16 is an hexadecimal number.
